General Description

The Weatherization Installer performs a variety of tasks to improve the health & safety, energy efficiency, and durability of YNHA rentals, and home ownership units.  He/she is required to demonstrate proven knowledge of residential building components in performance of responsibilities. The incumbent is responsible for knowing how to use and maintain power and hand tools in a safe and proper manner. The incumbent is expected to respect and follow all YNHA policies, the Department of Commerce Standards and Specifications of the Weatherization Manual for performing the Low-Income Weatherization Program(s) and complying with Building, Electrical, Plumbing Codes as well as other pertinent standards. The Weatherization Installer works under the supervision of the Weatherization Manager and may receive scope of work directions from the designated BPI certified Building Analyst. The incumbent is part of the Weatherization team and is expected to raise and discuss issues and concerns that arise from his/her work and to propose actions to resolve them.

Involvement With Data, People

Data Involvement: Basic office skills, writing summaries, work orders-writing, updating, completing them. Emails and correspondences

People Involvement: Ability to deal effectively with the public in conflict situations, problem solving in situations. Also communicate daily with clients, contractors, and YNHA staff. Knowledge and understanding of social economic problems and conditions related to housing, health, education of low-income groups, of available local resources and services.

 

General Requirements


Reasoning Requirements:  Requires using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Mathematical Requirements: Make arithmetic computations- addition, subtraction, multiplications, and division rapidly and accurately. Knowledge of calculator-calculate ratios, rates, and percentages.

Language Requirements: Requires reading technical instructions, procedures manuals, and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine or specialized reports, forms, or business letters with proper format, speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.

Mental Requirements: Requires detailed work, professional level work requiring the application of procedures. The ability to effectively plan, organize, manage, and follow up on caseload (s.)

Physical and Dexterity Requirements:  The incumbent must operate hand and power tools and equipment. Normal physical activity can be strenuous and may involve prolonged standing, walking, reaching, bending, crouching, stooping, and lying prone, confined spaces such as the building under floor (crawl space & attics.). The incumbent must use arm strength to manipulate hand tools such as saws, sanders, and jointers. The incumbent must occasionally push, pull, and/or lift objects up to and over 50 pounds. The incumbent works indoors and outdoors and is exposed to extreme weather conditions.

Environmental Hazards:  The incumbent works indoors and outdoors and is exposed to extreme weather conditions, seasonal and year around. The incumbent may occasionally be subject to electrical shock hazards, dangerous heights, dangerous chemicals, and skin irritants (e.g., cleaning solutions, solvents, insecticides). The incumbent is required to be familiar with Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, and will be required to use such equipment as necessary; safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, safety boots & gloves, Tyvek suits & booties. The incumbent may also be asked to be mask fit for a full or half mask respirator and used as required. Ability to withstand temperature/climate changes. The employee may be exposed to usual and unusual hazards associated with housing developments.

Sensory Requirements:  The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, and color perception.

Judgments and Decisions: Ability to work independently. Requires being responsible for guiding others and making frequent decisions affecting employees, and visitors who depend on the service or product; works in a fluid environment with rules and procedures, but with many variations from the routine.

 

Vocational/Educational/Experience requirements:

Education Requirements: Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training in maintaining procedures and protocols. Vocational Training Certificate in Construction or Weatherization field preferred.

Special Certifications and Licenses: TERO Certified Member is preferred. Requires a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout employment is required for this position. A valid Driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout employment is required for this position. Must qualify to drive a YNHA company vehicle through insurance provider.  Upon employment attend and complete training to include OSHA 10, Asbestos, confined space, CPR, and Led safe work practices, Solar 101 orientation.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of one to three years of work experience in specialized field stated and a general understanding of residential building components preferred.
