 General Description

The purpose of this position is to protect and secure the assets of the Yakama Nation Housing Authority. The position is responsible for assisting in coordination and evaluation of security operations of the buildings and properties of the Yakama Nation Housing Authority while strictly adhering to and always enforcing all organizational policies and procedures. The Security Officer is expected to observe and report any emergent, unusual, or prohibited activity to the appropriate authority. The position is under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Security Coordinator.

Involvement with People and Data

Data Involvement: Requires summarizing, tabulating, or formatting data or information in accordance with a prescribed plan to facilitate the identification and extraction of useful information.

 People Involvement: Requires speaking or signaling to employees to convey or exchange information of a general nature. Works in a team environment.

 Involvement with things: Requires handling or using machines, tools, or equipment that requires moderate instruction and experience, such as computers, peripherals, software programs for routine operations such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications and specialized software programs, may service office machines.

 

General Requirements

Reasoning Requirements: Requires performing routine work involving set procedures, using common sense, and taking directions without question.

 Mathematical Requirements: Requires performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, may calculate ratios, rates and percentages.

 Language Requirements: Requires reading sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures, or work orders; writing sentences and completing job forms and incident reports; speaking sentences using proper grammar. Strong command of English language both written and oral is required. Requires being able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

 Mental Requirements: Requires manual tasks prescribed by standard practices which may require several procedures and independent judgment with obvious choices; requires normal attention to detail for accurate results.

 Physical and Dexterity Requirements: Requires light work that involves walking or standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs involving close tolerance or limits of accuracy.

 Environmental Hazards: The job risks: exposure to bright/dim light, traffic, extreme heat and/or cold, wet, or humid conditions, and acts of violence. The employee may be exposed to usual and unusual hazards associated with housing developments.

 Sensory Requirements: The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, and color, depth, and texture perception.

 Judgement and Decisions: Requires being responsible for guiding others and making frequent decisions affecting employees, and visitors who depend on the service or product; works in a fluid environment with rules and procedures, but with many variations from the routine.

 

 

Vocational/Educational and Experience Preparation

 Vocational/Educational Preparation: Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training in security procedures and protocols.

 Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout employment is required for this position.  Must qualify to drive an YNHA vehicle through insurance provider.

 Experience Requirements: One year of experience in security or law enforcement preferred with superior work ethics and report writing skills. Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written, with the ability to handle conflict and problem resolution in a professional manner. Ability to work independently and display creativity, excellent attention to detail in compiling data and reports. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Must have a positive work history.

Drug and Alcohol Policy

The Yakama Nation Housing Authority has a “Drug Free Workplace Policy”.  All employees are subject to pre-employment, random drug tests and to tests when the use of alcohol or drugs in the workplace is suspected.

In accordance with Section 101(k) of NAHASDA, Yakama Nation Housing Authority applies Yakama Tribal preference in employment, as established by Resolution GC-05-2012 of the Yakama Nation General Council.
